November 8, 2025
Dear Families and Staff,
As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment in our school community, effective immediately, all School Division non-instructional buildings to include the Administrative Services/School Board Office will revert back to being gun-free zones as per the Virginia Code 22.1-131.1, which permits all School Division property to be designated as gun-free zones.
Also, beginning November 10, 2025, we will enhance security for students, staff, and guests attending School Board meetings with the use of the Evolv weapons detection system at the School Board room entrance.
What to Expect
As part of this new security protocol, all attendees must pass through the weapons detection system before entering the School Board Meeting.
Further screening will be required if guests walk through the system and the light turns red. Event staff may utilize a hand wand as a part of the additional screening process.
Students, staff, and guests attending the School Board Meeting are encouraged to arrive early to allow for extra time at entry.
It is recommended that individuals with implantable or wearable medical devices consult their device manufacturer or physician for information relating to their own specific device. An alternative screening approach can be requested for anyone who has safety concerns. Please notify staff at the School Board room entrance.

Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Clint M. Mitchell, Ed.D.
