Dr. Tracie Omohundro was recently appointed by the Commonwealth Governor’s School Governing Board to become the director of the regional Commonwealth Governor’s School (CGS) beginning July 1, 2024. 

Dr. Omohundro brings 30 years of instructional knowledge and experience to the Commonwealth Governor's School program. She is currently the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction of Powhatan County Public Schools and has previously served as a secondary teacher, assistant principal, and principal. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia. Additionally, she has a Master of Teaching, Secondary Social Studies, a Principals & Supervisors Post Master’s Certificate, and Doctor of Philosophy in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University.

As the Commonwealth Governor’s School director, Dr. Omohundro will coordinate the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of CGS, for academically talented and highly motivated students across Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford Counties. 

The Commonwealth Governor’s School curriculum is designed to challenge students in four major academic content areas, through problem-based instruction appropriate for gifted and highly motivated learners and to focus on the community issues of environment, development, and service.
