As part of its efforts to ensure kids have access to healthy meals during the summer months, Spotsylvania County Public Schools is participating in the summer food service program starting June 4, 2024. 

For kids who rely on school meals, summer can be the hungriest time of year, and hunger has short- and long-term consequences for a child’s health, education and well-being. Spotsylvania County Public Schools understands the importance of making sure kids and teens have access to nutritious summer meals is especially important this summer.

Meal kits will be distributed from June 4, 2024 to July 25, 2024 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with the exception of June 19, 2024 and July 4, 2024. No meals will be distributed on the holidays June 19, 2024 and July 4, 2024.  

Meal kits, containing 7 days of breakfast and 7 days of supper, will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on designated days at the following schools:

  • Tuesdays - Massaponax High 

  • Wednesdays - Wilderness Elementary 

  • Thursdays- Spotsylvania High

Only one 7-day kit per child, per week. Students attending Academic Summer School will receive 3-day meal kits during the Academic Summer School sessions. 

Through the USDA SUN Meals To-Go summer program all Spotsylvania County children and teens 18 and under will be provided free of charge regardless of race, color, national origin, sex including gender identity and sexual orientation, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
