Enrolling Before Arrival
Moving is challenging, especially for those many military families who must do so frequently and sometimes with little notice. Oftentimes, it can be difficult to locate and secure a new place to live. Fortunately for military members, the Virginia Code of Virginia § 22.1-3. Persons to whom public schools shall be free. Section B paragraph 3 allows for enrollment in the school division of the child’s intended residence if documentation is provided, at the time of enrollment, of military orders of the service member's parent or an official letter from the service member’s command indicating such relocation. Military parents will then have 120 days from the initial enrollment date to provide the required residency documentation, listed as the 1st bullet below.
