Media Release

You may complete a 2024-25 school year meal application online beginning August 5, 2024.  Meal benefits from the 2023-2024 school year will carry over for the first 30 operating days of the 2024-2025 school year.  This allows time for families to reapply.  Parents/guardians may complete a meal application online at MySchoolApps.com, or they may complete a paper application.  Paper applications are available at the main office of all schools except CEP-approved schools and the Food Service Office.  A new application must be completed each year (unless the student is directly certified by the Virginia Department of Social Services) or will be enrolled in a CEP (Community Eligibility Provision) approved school for the 2024-2025 school year. Only the 2024-2025 school year version of the Free and Reduced Price Meal Application will be accepted.  Meal applications are accepted anytime during the school year.  Upon receipt, processing can take up to 10 days.

  • Only one meal application is needed per household.

  • For the 2024-2025 school year, the cost of reduced-price meals is being waived; therefore, students approved for reduced-price meals will not be charged for a reimbursable meal.

  • Students are entitled to one reimbursable breakfast and one reimbursable lunch per student per school day.

  • Students refusing to select a reimbursable meal must pay the la carte price for each item on their tray.

  • Students with a second meal will be charged the a la carte price.

  • A la carte purchases cannot be charged.

Students who consume breakfast or lunch from home must pay the a la carte price for individual menu components (for example,  milk, fruit, etc.).  A la carte items cannot be charged.

CEP Schools
CEP approved schools for the 2024-2025 SY – Battlefield Elementary, Berkeley Elementary, Cedar Forest Elementary, Courthouse Rd. Elementary, Harrison Rd. Elementary, Lee Hill Elementary, Livingston Elementary, Parkside Elementary, Riverview Elementary, Salem Elementary, Smith Station Elementary, Spotsylvania Elementary, Spotswood Elementary, Wilderness Elementary, Battlefield Middle, Freedom Middle, Post Oak Middle, Spotsylvania Middle, Thornburg Middle, Chancellor Middle, Chancellor High, Massaponax High, Spotsylvania High and John J. Wright Educational and Cultural Center.

Students enrolled in CEP schools are entitled to one free, reimbursable breakfast meal and one reimbursable free lunch meal per child per school day.  Students are not entitled to receive individual meal components free of charge. Students desiring Individual meal components and refusing portable meals select a reimbursement and will be charged a la carte for selected food items. A la carte purchases cannot be charged.

If a student transfers from a CEP school to a non-CEP school, their free meal benefits are valid for 10 school days, allowing the parent/guardian to apply for meal benefits.  As of the 11th school day, the student will be charged the full price for reimbursable meals if an approved meal application is not on file.

Please do not complete a meal application if your child is enrolled at a CEP school for the 2024-2025 school year.

Direct Certification
If the Parent/Guardian receives notification from the SCPS Food Service Office of Direct Certification eligibility for the 2024-2025 school year, they do not need to complete a meal application.  A separate letter is mailed to all students in the household.  If you do not receive a letter for all of the students in your household, please contact Linda McGee or Christine Salyers at the Food Service Office at (540) 582-5894.

Incomplete Meal Applications
Meal applications that are incomplete and/or do not include all the information required for processing will be mailed back to the household for correction. Please return the corrected meal application to the Food Service Office.

Reimbursable Meals
Students are encouraged to select a “reimbursable meal.”  At a minimum, a student must select 3 out of 4 meal components at breakfast and 3 out of 5 at lunch.  At least one of the 3 components must be a full serving of fruit or vegetable for breakfast and lunch.   If the student refuses to select a fruit or vegetable, he/she will be charged the a la carte price for each item on their tray.
