Advanced Placement Testing
For each Advanced Placement course, an AP Exam is administered at participating schools worldwide. Except for AP Studio Art -- a portfolio assessment -- each AP Exam contains a free-response section (either essay or problem-solving) and a section of multiple-choice questions. The modern language exams also have a speaking component, and the AP Music Theory Exam includes a sight-singing task. Each AP Exam is given an overall grade of 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, with 5 indicating a student who is extremely well qualified to receive college credit and/or advanced placement based on an AP Exam grade.
In the early fall of each school year, AP Coordinators at each high school in Spotsylvania County will provide AP exam information to students enrolled in AP courses. Completed order forms and the appropriate fees must be returned to the counseling office at your child’s high school by the due date set by each high school. For more information about the AP testing program and testing dates, contact the AP Coordinator at your child’s school or access information online at Collegeboard.com.

Fee reductions of $37 per exam are available from the College Board for students with significant financial need.
Accommodations for Students with Disabilities
Students who receive school accommodations- and state-sponsored testing programs may be eligible for accommodations on college admissions or Advanced Placement tests. Any student with a documented disability and accommodations stipulated in an Individualized Education Plan or 504 Plan must register that information with the appropriate testing company before registering to take a PSAT, SAT, ACT, or AP test. Registration materials are available in the guidance office at each high school in Spotsylvania County. For more information about services for students with disabilities, contact the PSAT, SAT, and AP programs or the ACT program.
