PSAT, SAT & ACT Information

PSAT Info

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) in the United States.

SAT Information - The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is offered yearly. All juniors and seniors who are college/community college/university bound, plan to attend a technical institute or trade school or are undecided about post-graduation plans should take the SAT. SAT registration can be completed online on the CollegeBoards website.

ACT Information - The ACT is a national college admission exam similar to the SAT. It is a curriculum-based test that takes approximately 3.5 hours to complete. Many students take the ACT as an alternative to the SAT. ACT registration materials are in the SHS School Counseling Department or the ACT website.

Accommodations for Students with Disabilities - Students who receive accommodations on school- and state-sponsored testing programs may be eligible for accommodations on college admissions or Advanced Placement tests. Any student with a documented disability and accommodations stipulated in an Individualized Education Plan or 504 Plan must register that information with the appropriate testing company before registering to take a PSAT, SAT, ACT, or AP test. Registration materials are available in the counseling office at each high school in Spotsylvania County. For more information about services for students with disabilities, contact the PSAT, SAT, and AP programs or the ACT program.
