Dr. Clint Mitchell
Superintendent of Schools
Dr. Mitchell has served as the superintendent of Spotsylvania County Public Schools since August 2024. Additionally, he is a member of the Governor’s Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) task force on chronic absenteeism, chairs the Virginia Alliance of Black School Educators membership committee, is the Region 3 Virginia Association of School Superintendent’s professional development lead, and is a principal advisor for Share Our Strength-No Kid Hungry regarding best practices to address student chronic absenteeism and the impacts of food insecurity on students.
Previously he served as superintendent for Colonial Beach Public Schools for three years. His achievements also include being nominated for the 2024 Virginia Region 3 Superintendent of the Year, receiving the 2021 National Association Elementary School Principals’ National Distinguished Principal Award, being selected as the 2021 Virginia Principal of the Year, and the 2013 Prince William County Public Schools Principal of the Year and recipient of the Washington Post National Distinguished Leadership award.
In addition to Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Mitchell has served in a variety of instructional and leadership roles to include an adjunct professor for James Madison University, principal for Fairfax County Public Schools, principal, assistant principal, and teacher for Prince William County Public Schools.
He earned a Doctor of Education in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech University, an AASA-Howard University Urban Superintendents Academy Certificate, a Master of Education in Education Leadership from George Mason University, a Master of Arts in Urban Policy and Public Administration from the City University of New York, and a Bachelor Arts in Political Science from Brooklyn College.
