UPDATE as of 5/19/26 4:30 p.m.
We continue to closely monitor the weather forecast for this week’s graduation ceremonies. Due to the anticipated inclement weather conditions, the following changes are being made to the graduation ceremony schedule for Spotsylvania High, Riverbend High, and Chancellor High.
Spotsylvania High School ceremony will move to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026
Riverbend High School ceremony will move to 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026
Chancellor High School ceremony will move to 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026
Massaponax High School ceremony will remain at 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026 (asynchronous learning day for MHS students)
Courtland High School ceremony will remain at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
As result of these changes, Riverbend High School will have a regular in-person day on Friday, May 22, 2026, and Spotsylvania High School and Post Oak Middle School will have an early dismissal for SHS at 11:15 a.m. and POMS at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
As graduations will take place outside in the stadiums, it is recommended guests bring a towel for the stadium bench and wear a rain jacket if necessary. No umbrellas will be allowed in the stadium to ensure all families can view their graduates walking across the stage.
In the event that inclement weather makes it unsafe to hold any of the graduation ceremonies as noted above, the make-up date for the graduation ceremony will be 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The inclement weather notification will be communicated via:
Email, text, and phone call through the SCPS Notification System
Division Facebook, Instagram, and X social media accounts
School websites and Graduation 2026 Division Webpage https://www.spotsylvania.k12.va.us/page/graduation
As a reminder, all graduations will be live-streamed. Live-stream links for each graduation are posted on the Division’s website at https://www.spotsylvania.k12.va.us/page/graduation.
We understand the importance of this day and that is why we wanted to provide families and staff with as much notice as possible. With that in mind, we felt that it was better to make the call based on the current forecast than to wait until the last minute. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
