special

Earlier this month Gateway Academy and ECSE took part in the Special games and Little Feet Meet for our area (area 11) within the Special Olympics Virginia network. The students and staff worked and played hard all year and enjoyed the array of activities available to these wonderful and talented athletes. The other programs at JJW showed their love and support by sending off the attendees with cheers, claps, and fanfare. Each year, these amazing students and staff go out and give it their all and make us beyond proud!

Training together and playing together are quick paths to friendship and understanding. “Feet Meets” are a way for preschool and elementary schools to engage students with and without intellectual disabilities during a training season and culminating activity, the “Feet Meet.” Students without disabilities can practice and compete with their team, as well as act as meet facilitators (middle/high school) and fans.

Little Feet Meets for preschool and elementary children helps them reach critical developmental milestones through weekly sports training. Skill stations for preschool students, lead-up track events for students in grades K—2, and competitive track events for students in grades 3 – 5 are offered to accommodate all ages and skill levels.

More information on these wonderful programs can be found on their website.
