Congratulations to the SMS music department for achieving the Virginia Blue Ribbon School of Music Award. The designation of Blue Ribbon School of Music is only awarded when Band, Chorus and Orchestra all receive a rating of superior at the state assessment - a musical evaluation of our performing groups by a panel of expert judges. A Superior Rating is the highest rating a performance can earn.
Mr. Manuel, Mrs. Steckler and Mrs. Pendleton were recognized during the April 13th School Board meeting for receiving this distinction, one of only 3 secondary schools in the county receiving this award.
Additionally, congratulations to the SMS Band for achieving the status of Virginia Honor Band. This is the highest music distinction in Virginia.
