important before & after school care update image

At the May regular School Board meeting the School Board approved the Request for Proposal (RFP) committee’s recommendation for our before and after school care program. Our current before and after school care provider 5-year contract with the YMCA is expiring June 30, 2026. The RFP process for a new contract was completed as per the Virginia Public Procurement Act in the Code of Virginia. The School Board and the Superintendent do not evaluate RFPs. It is the responsibility of the RFP committee to review each proposal based on the advertised rubric and criteria.

For the 2026-2027 school year, Spotsylvania County Public Schools has partnered with Kindercare Learning Companies’ Champions program to provide before and after school programming for our students. The program will be available to all students in grades K-5 and will be located on each elementary school campus.

The Champions program includes hands-on activities, homework support, fitness opportunities, and healthy snacks offered each day. To get a closer look at the Champions program, please click on the following link: https://www.discoverchampions.com/why-champions/virtual-tour.

In the coming weeks, Champions staff will be hosting open house events to provide families with an opportunity to learn more about the program and connect with their team. We will share additional information as soon as it becomes available.

We thank the YMCA for the previous years of service as our before and after school care provider. We value the YMCA’s partnership and look forward to working with them on their other programs Bright Beginnings, 2nd Grade Learn-to-Swim, and Summer Camp, which were offered independently from their before and after school care contract with the school division. More information regarding the availability of these programs for our families will be provided by the YMCA through our SCPS Community e-newsletter.
