NRMS Community,
We are off to a great start! Students did a wonderful job transitioning back to school. The staff dedicated last week, and will continue to dedicate significant time to welcoming students, teaching our processes and procedures, and most importantly, building positive relationships. It was great to see the many smiles on students’ faces as they reconnected with their peers and enjoyed the atmosphere at Ni River.
We have been impressed with student behavior! Parental support is vital in helping reinforce a safe school environment through respectful, responsible, and productive behavior. Please take some time this week to have conversations about the Code of Student Conduct to help reinforce school expectations. Thank you for your ongoing efforts to encourage our Falcons to Win the Day!
Transportation appears to have had a successful launch. Our Transportation Department has managed the difficult challenge of transporting our students with limited drivers and runs. We appreciate our regular drivers and sub drivers getting our students to and from school safely.
Our car rider lines are up and running smoothly. You all have been very helpful in keeping vehicles off of Catharpin Road in the morning by pulling all the way to the end of the loop before unloading!
As a reminder, our Student Handbook which includes documents that require parent/guardian signatures is now electronic. If you haven’t already done so, please log into ParentVue to review this information and sign the documents.
School safety is, and will always be, our number one priority. Staff has been and will continue to train students on our response to various scenarios. We successfully completed our first evacuation drill this week. Our first two Lockdown drills are scheduled for August 22nd and 29th.
Finally, a huge shout out to our teachers and staff for a successful launch to the 2023-2024 school year. I appreciate all their hard work and dedication to our students and community. It was evident daily over the past week and came to life as we welcomed students this week.
Thank you for your ongoing support to help us continue to be the #BestMiddleSchoolInTheWorld!
Falcon Strong,
Chad Armstrong
Interim Principal
Athletics News
Girls Soccer/Basketball tryouts begin Monday, August 14 and go through the 16th. Students interested in trying out must have a completed physical form and complete the concussion training found on the NRMS website under Athletics. Students will not be able to try out without both items completed. Please return the completed physical form to Ms. Gebhart, Athletic Director.
Students that are trying out must bring a note from their parents giving permission for the week to stay after school. Pick up will be promptly at 5:00 PM.
Football tryouts for seventh and eighth graders will begin August 28th and will require a completed physical form and concussion training as well. Please bring completed physicals to Ms. Gebhart in Computer Lab 2.
For any questions, please email Destiny Gebhart, Athletic Director at dgebhart@spotsylvania.k12.va.us.
Library News
Please take the opportunity to sit down with your son/daughter to look at their Library account in Destiny. If you go to Destiny Discover Home (follettsoftware.com) you will find yourself on the Ni River website for in-home access to the Destiny library catalog. In the top right click on the Login link (same login used to get on the computer – see below) to check to see if your student has anything on his/her account from last year. Feel free to look around at the learning resources available (we will take an in-depth look at them during class) and to look at books available in the library. Please remember that students are welcome to return or exchange books daily before school, during or between classes with the permission of their classroom teacher. Also, library books may be kept for two weeks, then must be returned. A book may be renewed a maximum of 2 times if the student is not finished reading it.
Please stop by the library, call me at 540-785-3990, or email me at dhefner@spotsylvania.k12.va.us if you ever have any questions or comments. I look forward to meeting you! – David Hefner, NRMS Teacher Librarian
