Student of the month

My name is Ella Myers and I am a senior at Massaponax High School. My parents are Sarah and Jeremy Myers and I have a younger sister, Molly, who is a freshman this year. I don’t currently know which college I will be attending, but I do know that James Madison University and Virginia Tech are my two top schools. I plan on studying Architectural Engineering and Design or Business Administration with a minor in Mathematics.

I am a student in the Commonwealth Governor’s School (CGS), which is a half-day, specialized academic program, for gifted and highly motivated students, utilizing a school-within-a-school model located at Spotsylvania High School. I’ve been awarded the 4.0 and above award every year that I have attended here. Along with maintaining my academic status, I’ve also had the chance to immerse myself in the clubs and student life offered here at Massaponax. I play the violin for the school's orchestra, I am an active member of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and have played Varsity Lacrosse for the past two seasons. I’ve participated in three of the school's theater productions as well. My sophomore year I was in the ensemble in White Christmas, my Junior year I was Hunyak in Chicago, and this year I am Cady Heron in Mean Girls. Being in these clubs and participating in after school activities has not only given me a chance to grow my social life, but also pass on my love for them to the incoming freshmen.

Not only do I do as much as I can inside school, I am also rather busy outside of school. Most of my Saturdays are dedicated to my job at Paul’s Bakery as a sales associate. On Sunday mornings I volunteer at my church in the children’s ministry helping in the classrooms. I also attend different groups at my church such as Connect Group on  Sundays and Midweek on Wednesdays. In my freetime, I enjoy the normal teenage activities, such as reading, watching tv, hanging out with friends and family, and painting.

I know that when the time comes I’m going to be sad to graduate from Massaponax, as this school holds some of my favorite memories from the most formative of my teenage years. However, I am excited to see what the future has in store for me. I’m excited to see what I will accomplish in my future endeavors and what kinds of new situations I will encounter. I don’t yet know where I will be going or for certain what I will be doing, but I know that I am ready and prepared.
