ALEXANDRIA ALSTON
Hello, my name is Alexandria Alston and I am a senior here at Massaponax High School. I am the daughter of Joy Champion, Archie Alston II, Eugene Champion, and Jessica Batten. I have 4 brothers, my twin brother Archie Alston (17), my little brother Miles Champion (12), and my 2 step-brothers Donovan (10) and Devon Hawes (17).
Throughout my time here at Massaponax I think it’s safe to say that I've stayed quite busy. I have maintained above a 4.0 since my freshman year and have received the 4.0 and above award ever since. I am involved in a wide variety of clubs, National Honors Society (NHS), Spanish Honors Society, Student Council Association (SCA), Black Student Union (BSU), Interact Club, Teen Enrichment, Virginia Student Council Association (VSCA), AAU Track and Field, Massaponax Track and Field, Delta Gems, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Fredericksburg Christian Athletes (FCA), and the list could go on. Outside of school, I am very committed to my church and help out at their food pantry. The food pantry serves Spotsylvania County food and healthcare necessities on a weekly basis. As a volunteer, I serve every Sunday after church service and Saturday morning. I love the work that we do and how I can see the change/effect that we’re making in our community.
My biggest accomplishment was something I could’ve never predicted. It was when I qualified for the Junior Olympics for shot put, discus, and javelin. I started track and field in the spring of my junior year with Virginia Blaze. In the beginning, I was terrible and didn't want to continue. But with the help of my coaches and their “push,” I improved at a rapid rate. They ended up making me one of their co-captains and the rest is history. I owe a lot to Coach Leslie, and Coach Mario for not only getting me there in record time but for teaching me to never give up and helping me realize you can do anything if you want it bad enough.
This fall I will be attending the Illustrious Spelman College majoring in biology on the pre-med track, with a minor in psychology. My ultimate goal is to become a dermatologist and to become a familiar face in that field. I have enjoyed my time at Massaponax and have learned a lot about myself, I will use those lessons to make my dream a reality.
