BOOSTERTHON SUCCESS-
Thank you for helping us surpass our goal and raise money for new bleachers and playground equipment! The students had a great time at our Fun Run today. We appreciate the support of all students, staff, and families to make this event a success. It’s not too late to give and we are excited to announce that giving will be open throughout the weekend!

NATIONAL SCREEN TIME AWARENESS DAY-
Tomorrow, August 30, is National Screen Time Awareness Day! Too much screen time can affect children’s sleep, attention, language, development, and learning. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends setting healthy limits and finding time for more active play, family conversation, and hands-on learning. We encourage you to take this day to reflect on your family’s screen habits and try out a fun, screen-free activity together. You can find helpful tips, information, and resources in the handout linked here.

RENAISSANCE SURVEY-
Dear Families,
We hope your school year is off to a great start! Spotsylvania County Public Schools will administer a survey for students called Renaissance Fundamentals. All students, in grades 2nd through 12th will be invited to participate. Information collected from the Renaissance Fundamentals survey will allow our school team to proactively address non-academic barriers to learning, which can compromise the wellbeing and academic success of our students. While student participation is voluntary, the information will help us better understand and provide support to your student.
The short engagement survey is focused on the following nine factors:
Feeling about school
Perceived learning capability
Self-regard as a learner
Preparedness for learning
Attitude of teachers
General work ethic
Confidence in learning
Attitudes of school attendance
Response to curriculum demands
Students are scheduled to take the survey September 15th-26th and again during the second semester from January 19th - 20th. If you have any questions about the purpose of the survey or wish to opt your child out from completing the survey, please contact your child’s school counseling office prior to September 15th.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR LHES SCHOOL OPERATIONS & PROCEDURES 2025-2026-
BUS LOOP/PARKING PROCEDURES:
Due to preschool and special program schedules, the front bus loop will be reserved for buses only on all of the days school is in session.
This means no vehicles will be allowed to park and/or drop-off students between
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Visitor parking spaces and Quick-Stop Spaces (10 minutes or less) will be designated in the larger parking lot adjacent to our building. There are plenty of additional parking spots available within the larger lots.
Parking may be altered for special school-wide events.
Reminder: ADA/Handicap spaces are only for vehicles with proper identification.
The school day begins at 8:45am and ends at 3:30pm
We know how valuable each moment of the school day is and attendance for our students is critical. Late arrivals or early dismissals should only occur in cases of emergency. Please ensure students are able to attend school for the entire day. Students are considered tardy if they are not in the classroom by 8:45 A.M.
Parent Drop Off will begin at 8:25 each day. Students will not be able to enter the building prior to that time.
Please only allow your student to exit the car in the designated area with a staff member present.
Dismissal: Transportation changes are only accepted in written form
Student safety is our top priority, and for safety reasons we can only accept changes in writing.
Please send in a written note or email to leehillesattendance@spotsylvania.k12.va.us, if your student has a change in afternoon transportation or is being picked up early. Students will be released only to parents, guardians, or persons officially designated in writing by the parent or guardian.
Notification for changes in dismissal should be done by 2:00 p.m.
After 3:10, students will not be dismissed from the office. Please go to Parent Pick-up/Curbside line if you are picking up your child after the 3:10 time.
Clinic Reminders:
All medicine, to include herbal and over the counter medicine (cough drops, allergy medication, eye drops etc) must be delivered to the school nurse or principal in the original unopened container by the parent/guardian. All medicine must have a written doctor's order and must be administered in the school clinic.
When a child is sick and/or reports he/she will not be able to participate
comfortably in classroom activities or could potentially spread a contagious disease, he/she should be kept home. If you are unsure if your child may come to school, please contact the school nurse prior to sending to school.
Outside Food Deliveries:
Outside deliveries, including food vendor deliveries, cannot be accepted for students. Parent visitors during lunchtime may only provide outside food for their own child. As part of our safety plan, outside food may not be distributed to any other student.
Celebrations:
Each year, across our elementary sites, feedback from staff and parents is mixed with regard to outside food and treats. We are aware that this is a sensitive subject. We will continue to celebrate student birthdays as a school-wide community, however, should you choose to provide birthday treats to classmates, these goodies must be non-edible. Cupcakes, candy, and/or any other edible food items will not be allowed. Please refrain from leaving/sending balloons, and candles. These items, as well as floral arrangements are not allowed on school buses. Specific, school-wide celebrations will continue with other guidance and forward planning for a safe, healthy event.
Birthday Invitations:
Invitations for individual parties need to be delivered outside of school. Teachers and staff are not permitted to hand out invitations. A school directory will be accessible soon.
Cell Phones:
Students may not access cell phones, smartwatches, or personal devices during the school day while on school property including buses.
Electronic devices should remain at home. If a student has a cell phone, it must remain off and in their backpack. Please refrain from any cell phone and smartwatch communication use in the building or on the bus. Taking pictures or video in the school setting or on the school bus is not permitted.
HERE COMES THE BUS APP-
The Here Comes the Bus parent app for school bus tracking will be reactivated on Wednesday, August 6th. Until that day, parents will not be able to create a new account or add a new student. If parents have any questions, please visit the Transportation section of the SCPS website, where they can access the Here Comes the Bus support site.
CURBSIDE REMINDERS FOR OUR PARENT LOOP-
We want to take time to remind all parents using the parent loop about our curbside safety rules. New numbers are issued each year for students using curbside for dismissal. Families can sign up for curbside numbers during in the front office. Please remember that curbside drop off times are from 8:25-8:45 am each morning. We ask parents to remain in their vehicles to keep the line moving. Students should be ready to exit with their backpacks ready when vehicles reach the cone zone. Parents should not get out of their vehicles during morning drop off or afternoon pickup times. It is important to follow the directions of our staff working in the curbside loop and keep the line moving. Thank you for your cooperation! We want to make sure our lions are safe during arrivals and departures in the parent loop!
UPDATE ON ACCESSING SCHOOL PROPERTY AFTER HOURS-
Due to the installation of our new modular unit (The Cub Cabin) in the back of our property and the addition of new preschool programs this year, community members, students, or families are no longer allowed to access the back playgrounds behind the school during or after school hours. For the safety and security of our school grounds, there will be no loitering allowed behind the school. Thank you for your support of this safety measure as we await the installation of more fencing along the back of our school grounds.
PTO UPDATE-
The LHES PTO made a difficult decision this summer to dissolve the organization due to an inadequate amount of parents willing to take on active board member roles. All money from the PTO was donated back to the school and is being used to support all students and staff at LHES. The school will continue family engagement events and traditions and will seek out volunteers to help with all school sponsored events. As a result, the PTO Facebook Page will transition to a new school sponsored Facebook and Instagram Page in the near future. Limited information will be posted to the PTO Facebook Page as we work to transition to a new page. We will share more updates for following LHES on social media in the near future. In the meantime, check out our LHES School Website that is linked to the official SCPS website.
DRILLS-
Our school practices safety drills each year in order to train students and staff on emergency procedures. We will be practicing fire drills, severe weather drills, and lockdown/intruder drills several times within the first 20 days of school and then continuously throughout the year. We will also practice bus drills in September and throughout the year.

Mañana, 30 de agosto, esDía Nacional de Concientización sobre el Tiempo de PantallaDemasiado tiempo frente a pantallas puede afectar el sueño, la atención, el lenguaje, el desarrollo y el aprendizaje de los niños. La Academia Estadounidense de Pediatría recomienda establecer límites saludables y dedicar tiempo al juego activo, la conversación familiar y el aprendizaje práctico. Los animamos a aprovechar este día para reflexionar sobre los hábitos de pantalla de su familia y a probar juntos una actividad divertida sin pantallas. ENCUESTA DEL RENACIMIENTO-
Queridas familias:
¡Esperamos que su año escolar haya comenzado de maravilla! Las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Spotsylvania realizarán una encuesta para estudiantes llamada Fundamentos del Renacimiento. Todos los estudiantes de 2.º a 12.º grado estarán invitados a participar. La información recopilada en la encuesta Fundamentos del Renacimiento permitirá a nuestro equipo escolar abordar de forma proactiva las barreras no académicas que dificultan el aprendizaje y pueden comprometer el bienestar y el éxito académico de nuestros estudiantes. Si bien la participación es voluntaria, la información nos ayudará a comprender mejor y brindar apoyo a su estudiante.

PROCEDIMIENTOS DE ESTACIONAMIENTO/CIRCUITO DE AUTOBUSES:
Debido a los horarios de preescolar y programas especiales, laEl circuito frontal de autobuses estará reservado únicamente para autobuses.durante todos los días que hay clases en la escuela.
Esto significa que no se permitirá que ningún vehículo estacione y/o deje a los estudiantes entre
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Plazas de aparcamiento para visitantes y espacios de parada rápida(10 minutos o menos)Se asignará un lugar en el estacionamiento más grande, junto a nuestro edificio. Hay muchos lugares de estacionamiento adicionales disponibles en los estacionamientos más grandes.
El estacionamiento puede modificarse para eventos especiales de toda la escuela.

No se aceptan entregas externas, ni siquiera de vendedores de comida, para los estudiantes. Los padres que visiten la escuela durante el almuerzo solo podrán llevar comida externa a sus hijos. Como parte de nuestro plan de seguridad, no se puede distribuir comida externa a ningún otro estudiante.
Celebraciones:
Cada año, en nuestras escuelas primarias, los comentarios del personal y los padres son diversos con respecto a la comida y las golosinas que se ofrecen fuera de la escuela. Somos conscientes de que este es un tema delicado. Seguiremos celebrando los cumpleaños de los estudiantes como comunidad escolar; sin embargo, si deciden ofrecer golosinas de cumpleaños a sus compañeros, estos...Las golosinas no deben ser comestiblesNo se permitirán cupcakes, dulces ni ningún otro alimento comestible. RECORDATORIOS EN LA ACERA PARA NUESTRO CIRCUITO DE PADRES
Queremos recordarles a todos los padres que usan el circuito parental nuestras reglas de seguridad para la salida en la acera. Cada año, se emiten nuevos números para los estudiantes que usan el circuito parental para la salida en la acera. Las familias pueden inscribirse para obtener números para la salida en la acera en la oficina principal. Recuerden que el horario para dejar a los niños en la acera es de 8:25 a 8:45 a. m. todas las mañanas. Les pedimos a los padres que permanezcan en sus vehículos para mantener la fila en movimiento. ACTUALIZACIÓN SOBRE EL ACCESO A LA PROPIEDAD ESCOLAR FUERA DEL HORARIO DE ATENCIÓN
Debido a la instalación de nuestra nueva unidad modular (La Cabaña del Cub) en la parte trasera de nuestra propiedad y a la incorporación de nuevos programas preescolares este año, los miembros de la comunidad, estudiantes y familias ya no podrán acceder a los patios traseros de la escuela durante ni después del horario escolar. Para la seguridad de nuestro plantel, no se permitirá el paso detrás de la escuela. Gracias por su apoyo a esta medida de seguridad mientras esperamos la instalación de más cercas en la parte trasera del plantel.
ACTUALIZACIÓN DE PTO-
La Asociación de Padres y Maestros (PTO) de LHES tomó la difícil decisión este verano de disolver la organización debido a la escasez de padres dispuestos a participar activamente en la junta directiva. Todo el dinero recaudado por la PTO se donó a la escuela y se está utilizando para apoyar a todos los estudiantes y el personal de LHES. La escuela continuará con los eventos y tradiciones de participación familiar y buscará voluntarios para ayudar con todos los eventos patrocinados por la escuela. Como resultado, la página de Facebook de la PTO se convertirá próximamente en una nueva página de Facebook e Instagram patrocinada por la escuela. Se publicará información limitada en la página de Facebook de la PTO mientras trabajamos en la transición a la nueva página. Próximamente compartiremos más novedades para quienes sigan a LHES en redes sociales. Mientras tanto, consulten el sitio web de la escuela LHES, que está vinculado al sitio web oficial de SCPS.
TALADROS-
Nuestra escuela realiza simulacros de seguridad cada año para capacitar a los estudiantes y al personal en procedimientos de emergencia. Realizaremos simulacros de incendio, de clima severo y de encierro/intrusión varias veces durante los primeros 20 días de clases y, posteriormente, de forma continua durante todo el año. También realizaremos simulacros de autobús en septiembre y durante todo el año.
