During its work session on November 18, 2024, the Spotsylvania County School Board adopted its 2025 Legislative Priorities to communicate its positions on critical issues to share with local, federal, and state legislators.

"These priorities reflect both the opportunities and challenges we face at SCPS," said School Board Chair Dr. Lorita Daniels. "It is important for us to continue advocating for and empowering our district to fulfill its mission of providing, maintaining, and expanding instructional opportunities and services for our students. This also includes efforts to recruit and retain high-quality teachers and staff to support this work."

Spotsylvania County Public Schools 2024 Legislative Priorities focuses on five areas: School Funding and Finance; Academic Accountability and Accreditation; Teacher Recruitment and Retention; Wellness and Safety; and Expanding Broadband Access.

1. School Funding and Finance

Goal: Secure sufficient, equitable funding for Spotsylvania County Public Schools by advocating for updates to the Virginia K-12 funding formula to address growing student needs, improve facilities, and provide high-quality resources across the district.

2. Academic Accountability and Accreditation

Goal: Spotsylvania County Public Schools fully support a strong accountability system and request the delay in implementation to allow sufficient time for school division leaders, and stakeholders to strengthen the new Framework in collaboration with the VDOE.

3. Teacher Recruitment and Retention

Goal: Attract and retain high-quality educators with competitive benefits and strong support systems.

4. Wellness and Safety

Goal: Enhance school security and student well-being through funding for trained personnel, safety technology, and accessible mental health resources.

5. Expanding Broadband Access

Goal: Close the digital divide by expanding reliable internet access for all students, supporting equitable learning opportunities.
