We’re on our way to the Nationals.
This past weekend at Winston Salem, Best of the Best, Army JROTC Championships our drill team performance was outstanding.
This was the toughest competition this year. We competed with schools from Maryland to South Carolina.
The first event we competed in was unarmed platoon regulations, commanded by Cadet Major, Quynh, Ly , from Chancellor High School. Through her leadership, and dedication the team won the 3rd place trophy in this event.
Our second event was regulation color guard, commanded by C/Staff Sergeant Samantha Boggs from Riverbend High School. This group of cadets were composed of sophomores, competing against senior cadets from other high schools. Through their comment to excellence, they won 2nd place overall trophy.
The third event and the most difficult was platoon inspection. Platoon inspection challenged the cadet’s knowledge, uniform appearance and personal barring. The team rose to the occasion and performed excellently, meeting the high demand of oral expression and general knowledge of the JROTC curriculum. This group won 2nd place overall in inspection.
Our fourth and final event was team exhibition. The team performed well; however, there are a lot of improvements we need to do to compete at the highest level. Nevertheless, we will strive to improve our performance at our next completion.
Our next competition is the Army Nationals in Daytona Florida 4-6 May 23. We are excited for this opportunity to represent Spotsylvania County and the JROTC program.
We were accompanied in North Carolina by several parents and booster club members, as they continue to give us their encouragement and support to the Drill Team
