We hope everyone had a great weekend.
We have 5 full days of school scheduled for this week.
Upcoming day off: There is no school for students on Monday, March 10, 2025.
A/B Day Calendar Link – This calendar shows A/B days for the entire school year (A-days are underlined). Whether a school day will be an A or B-day is set in stone when the calendar publishes for the school year. A day will never change from an A-day to a B-day or vice-versa.
Attendance Matters: Studies have shown that by the time a student reaches the 6th grade, chronic absenteeism is the best predictor of students who will drop out of school prior to high school graduation.
“Chronic Absenteeism” means missing more than 10% of school days (whether excused or unexcused, whether due to illness, travel, etc). At this point in the school year, that means having missed 11 or more school days so far.
Club Pictures: Club and group photographs will be taken on March 6, 2025. If you wish to order your child's club or group photo, please visit www.strawbridge.net. Click on "Order Pictures" and enter the following code: FM471699.
Science Club: CMS continues to host our Science Club meetings, and our next meeting will be focusing on astronomy March 6th, weather depending. Grades 6-8 are invited to participate. We will meet Thursday, March 6th at 5:30pm on the practice field behind the high school football and baseball fields.
March’s event will be RSVP only, and we will be looking at planets through telescopes. Astronomy is a space-focused part of science that keeps watch over our planets, stars, moons, and celestial visitors (comets, asteroids, and space debris). We plan to have several telescopes set up and pointed at various planets visible at the time in our solar system.
Students must have transportation to the event and must have a parent chaperone. We will host a limited number of students.
*Please note: though we plan for everything, we do not control the weather. Hence, if there is cloud coverage we will be unable to host the meet. We will send out a message if the meet will be cancelled due to weather or cloud cover.
Students or parents should reach-out to their Science teacher for RSVP/Permission forms. Also, a responsible adult must stay during the event with you student. This is not a drop-off/pick-up event.
CMS School Supply Drive: The CMS School Supply Drive will be held from March 3-7. Students are encouraged to bring in any school supplies they would like to donate and put them in the collection bin in the front lobby. The items that are collected will go to the teachers at CMS. Of course, all of the pencils that are donated will go to the Math teachers!
Girls soccer at Chancellor High: Chancellor High School is seeking a few more girls to participate on their JV girls soccer team. If you are currently in 8th graded and zoned to attend Chancellor High School next year and are interested in participating, please come to our JV girls soccer practices any day next week starting on Monday, March 3rd, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Any students who receive ISS or OSS during the months of March, April, and/or May, will not be allowed to attend the dance. Also, the dance is only for CMS 8th graders. Medications and Treatments in School
Students who require medications or treatments in school, including self carry/self administered medications like inhalers or EpiPens, or over the counter medications like Tylenol or allergy tablets, must have orders/forms signed by a healthcare provider each school year. You can find the forms on the School Division website under Health Services. Nurse Tucker can provide hard copies of most forms upon request.
Ongoing Reminders:
Please call the office at (540) 786-8099 or email the homeroom teacher, or our attendance secretary at chancellormsattendance@spotsylvania.k12.va.us to let the school know that your child will not be attending school that day.
Please call the school to make any changes to your contact information (phone numbers, email address, postal address, emergency contacts). This can be done any time throughout the year.
When visiting the school, you will be asked to show a government-issued photo ID in order to enter the building.
Dismissal is at 2:45pm. If you need to pick-up your student early, please be aware that early pick-up ends at 2:30pm.
In the morning, buses unload at 7:40am and students go to breakfast if they wish, and then report to homeroom. Car-riding students can be dropped off as early as 7:20am, and we will provide them supervision in the gym. Please do not drop-off your student any earlier than 7:20am. They will not be allowed in the building and there will be no supervision of them if they get dropped-off before 7:20am.
If you pick-up your student from school during afternoon dismissal, please pull all the way around the loop and pick-up your student from the front of the school. In the interest of safety, we cannot allow students to walk to their parent’s car farther back in the pick-up line.
Cell Phones: Students are allowed to bring a cell phone to school, but it must remain off and in their backpack throughout the duration of the school day. Students who break these rules will have their cell phone confiscated and returned to them at the end of the day. Students who are repeated offenders will have their phone confiscated and kept in the office for parent to pick-up. Continued offenses after that will lead to further disciplinary consequences.
