Parents of 8th graders currently enrolled in Algebra I and Geometry:

The Commonwealth Governor's School (CGS) and International Baccalaureate (IB) online multi-component application is now open!

Link: https://www.spotsylvania.k12.va.us/page/advanced-high-school-programs

If your 8th grade child is interested in applying for the CGS and/or IB High School Program, he/she needs to return the "Permission to Apply" form (attached to this email) to the registrar or counselor as soon as possible

The on-line application will close on January 10, 2025. 8th grade applicants will attach a video and a digital project to the application before it is submitted. The Instructional Innovation Specialist can help your child link these items to the application. At BMS the IIS is Mrs. Harper; at CMS the IIS is Mrs. Dornan.

Applicants need to ask 4 teachers who they want to complete their 4 teacher recommendations.

The teacher recommendations should be from an English, Math, and Other teacher that they've had in middle school (6th-8th grade).

The last recommendation can come from a coach or mentor or another teacher who knows them well (in grades 6-8) and isn't related to them.

The teachers will receive the teacher recommendation form by email when the applicant submits their application.

Applicants received a paper guide to help the students through the application. More info is found on the Advanced Program website .
