Dress Code: Chancellor Middle School is increasing the focus on dress code. Below is the section from the CMS student handbook which discusses dress code. Though all parts of the dress code are in-place, these are specific areas of need/focus for CMS, as these are our most prevalent infractions this year:

  • Pajama pants and slippers are not to be worn in school.

  • Pillows, blankets, stuffed animals do not belong in school.

  • Volleyball-style shorts: Most volleyball shorts don’t meet dress code as they are too short.

During this coming week (11-18 through 11-22), we will be giving reminders daily on the morning announcements to students.

When we return from Thanksgiving Break, students in violation will be dealt with by offering an alternative garment (a clean piece of clothing that has been donated to CMS for this purpose), or a parent will be called to bring clothing that is suitable for school.

Copied from the CMS Student Handbook:

Dress guidelines are established to promote a standard of safety and an appearance that complements the learning environment. Students are expected to appear at school/school functions clothed and groomed appropriately for the occasion. If there is a doubt about a particular item, the student should contact an administrator for a decision. If the item is deemed inappropriate, the student will not be allowed to attend class/activity until the situation is remedied.

The following items are considered inappropriate for school:

1. Clothing that is excessively revealing, such as short skirts, short-shorts, halter/tube tops, tank tops, bare midriffs, see-through tops, and lingerie-type clothing. Shirts should cover the top of the bottom garment, so as not to expose midriff or underwear.

2. Pants are to be worn at the waistline.

3. Clothing displaying profanity, suggestive writing/symbols, language promoting drugs, alcohol, weapons, death, sexual relations and violence are prohibited.

4. Hats, caps, bandanas and sunglasses are not to be worn inside the building.

5. Clothing that is excessively torn, or ragged, especially in revealing areas of the body that normally must be covered by clothing (leggings should be worn underneath ripped jeans/pants).

6. Chains on clothing, heavy chains, dog collars, and heavy jewelry. \

7. Pajamas, bedroom slippers, and loungewear are not appropriate.

8. Any article of clothing or manner of dress considered to be disruptive/distracting to the learning environment.
