Spotsylvania County Public Schools Enhances Safety Measures at Football Games

Beginning Friday, September 19, 2025, Spotsylvania County Public Schools will enhance security for students, staff, and guests attending home high school football games with the use of the Evolv weapons detection system at the stadium entrance.

What to Expect

  • As part of this new security protocol, all attendees must pass through the weapons detection system before entering the stadium.

  • Further screening will be required if guests walk through the system and the light turns red. Event staff may utilize a hand wand as a part of the additional screening process.

  • Students, staff, and guests attending the game are encouraged to arrive early to allow for extra time at entry.

  • Spotsylvania County Public Schools’ no bag policy will remain in effect for all school events. This includes backpacks, purses, fanny packs, etc. Clear bags are allowed for use as a diaper bag or medical bag and are subject to search.

  • It is recommended that individuals with implantable or wearable medical devices consult their device manufacturer or physician for information relating to their own specific device. An alternative screening approach can be requested for anyone who has safety concerns. Please notify staff at the stadium entrance.

“The safety of our students, staff, and community is our priority,” said Dr. Clint M. Mitchell, Superintendent of Spotsylvania County Public Schools. “We are committed to providing a safe environment for all who attend our football games and appreciate everyone’s cooperation with this additional safety measure.”
