Greetings Tigers!

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at FMS!  After an exceptional 2023-2024 school year, the FMS family looks forward to another successful year.  FMS is an accomplished school and has many reasons to celebrate.  Students can participate in a rigorous academic program with great teachers, a terrific fine arts program, and an incredible student athletic program.

Alongside the amazing programs students can be involved in here at FMS are the core characteristics of being Responsible, Productive, and Respectful.  These are the key Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies (PBIS) tenets that we believe make successful students and a positive school climate. At the beginning of the year, we will discuss and note what each looks like in the classroom, hallway, lunchroom, and restrooms.  By displaying these characteristics, students can earn pride cards to win fun and exciting prizes at lunch.

FMS is a collaborative organization that encourages team—and department-level planning, creative and engaging instruction, and the incorporation of appropriate technology in the classroom while maintaining a nurturing and structured environment.

FMS Mission Statement - Freedom Middle School provides opportunities for a diverse population to become lifelong learners, effective communicators, and critical thinkers in an ever-changing society.

We will also provide extensive remediation for students not meeting benchmark standards and address ways to serve underachieving students needing intervention. FMS is proud to have received the Governor’s Award for academic performance on three occasions and the Blue Ribbon Music School Award eleven times since 2003. We are the only Spotsylvania County Public Schools school to achieve this honor.

Freedom Middle School has various after-school activities for students to participate in.  We have a growing number of students who engage in our STEM program after school to learn and explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics activities.  If you are a budding writer, the Creative Writing Club is a creative way to express thoughts through writing. Other exciting clubs and programs include the Art club, Media Team, Debate, Chess club, Gaming club, Shift club, Dance team, Ecology club, SCA, Color Guard, NJHS, and Robotics club.

I wish that each student finds his/her niche and engages in an activity that matches his/her interest and passion.  If I can further assist in making your child’s middle school experience exceptional, please call, email, or stop by.

Sincerely,

Eric Wright Ed.D
