SEAC Meeting Announcement (Virtual Meeting)

This month, SEAC will be hosting an Open Forum. The Office of Student Support Services will be available to hear concerns, answer questions, and hear celebrations and successes. Visitors are also welcome to attend and provide input.  If you would like to submit comments in advance, please fill out the Public Comment Form. What is the purpose of the Committee?

  • Advise the local school division of unmet needs in the education of children with disabilities.

  • Assist the local school division in formulating and developing plans for improving the performance of children with disabilities.

  • Participate in developing priorities and strategies for meeting the identified needs of children with disabilities.

  • Submit periodic reports and recommendations regarding the education of children with disabilities to the division superintendent for transmission to the school board.

  • Assist the local school division in interpreting plans for the community to meet the special needs of children with disabilities for education services.

  • Review the policies and procedures for providing special education and related services before submission to the local school board and the Virginia Department of Education.

The Special  Education Advisory Committee - (SEAC) is a supportive committee of parents, educators, and community agencies interested in educating children with disabilities.

Who is eligible to be a committee member?

  • Parents of children with disabilities

  • Individuals with disabilities

  • Representatives of civic organizations

  • Representatives of local businesses or industry

  • Public agency personnel

    *Open Forum allows participants to share celebrations and/or concerns regarding special education programs in Spotsylvania County Schools with the Office of Student Support Services. Please see the monthly meeting notices for important dates.
