    The Drafting program is designed to meet the needs of the student wishing to pursue a career in architecture, design, mechanical engineering, drafting, technical illustration, product design, civil engineering/surveying or CADD technician.

     Course Descriptions: 

    Drafting I 8530: 2 Credit Elective Offered Grade 11 or 12 - Prerequisites: None (Basic or Technical Drawing Helpful)

    Students explore drafting careers and theory.  They gain the manipulative skills necessary to produce and complete accurate manufacturing and construction drawings based on the ideas and sketches of engineers, architects, and designers, Students focus on performing mechanical drafting and design operations, using manual drafting techniques and Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD). Workplace readiness skills of teamwork, communication, problem solving, positive work ethic and integrity are emphasized.

     Drafting II Mechanical 8531:  2 Credit Elective Offered Grade 12 - Prerequisites: Drafting I

    Building on competencies taught in Drafting I, students master the theory and manipulative skills necessary to produce complete and accurate drawings based on the ideas and sketches of engineers, architects and designers. Mechanical drafting focuses on the application of designing and preparing drawings of machine parts and concepts.  Students focus on performing mechanical drafting and design operations, using manual drafting techniques and Computer Aided Drafting and Design software (CADD), and explore careers in drafting, including industry certification options. Workplace readiness skills of teamwork, communication, problem solving, positive work ethic and integrity are emphasized.

     Drafting II Architectural 8532:   2 Credit Elective Offered Grade 12 - Prerequisites: Drafting I

    Building on competencies taught in Drafting I, students are taught the theory and the manipulative skills necessary to produce and complete accurate drawings based on the ideas and sketches of engineers, architects, and designers. Students focus on completing a set of residence plans designed by the student that meet standard building codes. Students focus on performing architectural drafting  and design operations, using manual drafting techniques and Computer Aided Drafting and Design Software (CADD), and exploring careers in drafting, including industry certification options.  Workplace readiness skills of teamwork, communication, problem solving, positive work ethic and integrity are emphasized.

    Students are expected to join the Career and Technical Student organization SkillsUSA and SkillsUSA Virginia
