     2 YEAR Program beginning grade 11 and completing grade 12

    Students are eligible to participate in the Automotive Youth Services Program (AYES) which involves interning and job shadowing opportunities.  

    Certifications:

    Students are expected to become: Student Automotive Service Excellence Certified or pass an Automotive Service Excellence exam in at least one area prior to graduation:

    • A4 Suspension and Steering
    • A5 Brakes
    • A6 Electrical/Electronic Systems
    • A8 Engine Performance 
    • G1 Maintenance and Light Repair  

    Auto Service Technology 1       Credit: 4 Units            Offered Grade 11

    Auto Service Technology I follows a NATEF Curriculum and includes instruction in career opportunities, safety, tool and equipment use and general shop practices. In depth theory, diagnosis and repair of the automotive electrical and brake systems is covered, as well as, a brief introduction to Manual Transmissions and Drive Lines, Automatic Transmission Service and Engine Repair. The student is exposed to the automotive service industry through classroom lectures, audio-visual media, shop demonstrations and hands-on experience using components, donated cars and trucks, and customer motor vehicles. Students are eligible to participate in the Automotive Youth Services Program (AYES) which involves interning and job shadowing opportunities.

    Auto Service Technology 2     Credit: 4 Units     Offered Grade 12    Prerequisites: AST1

    Auto Service Technology II continues with the NATEF Curriculum and includes In Depth Theory of operation and service of the suspension and steering systems and fuel, ignition and emission systems. Limited instruction is also given in automotive air conditioning and diesel maintenance. Students are eligible to take various ASE tests as well as participate in the Automotive Youth Services Program (AYES) which involves interning and job shadowing opportunities.

     Additional Information:

    • Students are required to wear appropriate safety gear and uniforms in the lab.  Steel toed work boots are required.
    • Students are expected to join the Career and Technical Student organization SkillsUSA and SkillsUSA Virginia 
    • Students are encouraged to take part in the AYES component of the automotive service classes, which provides opportunities to visit and shadow at local dealerships as well as apply for various paid internships at local dealerships for the summer between 11th and 12th grade. 
    • IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT STUDENTS IN AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE CLASS ATTAIN A DRIVER’S LICENSE BY THE SECOND YEAR OF THE PROGRAM
