February Student Of the Month

Massaponax High School Senior, Coby Flanagan is a former native New Yorker (Queens, NY) who relocated to Fredericksburg, VA in 2004 with parents, Brian Flanagan and Jeannie Jones-Flanagan. Coby is a Program Leader with the Ron Rosner Family YMCA supporting school-
aged children at his former elementary school, Parkside.  He is currently the Co-President and active in the community through Inspired African American Males (IAAM), as well as a member of the Teen Enrichment Network (TEN). This allows him to engage in mentoring programs within the local elementary schools, support church functions and community sponsored events. Coby Flanagan works to positively impact future generations, but he also benefits from the positive impacts of the many people and organizations that he encounters through community service.  Amongst the numerous academic awards Coby has received, he is most proud of being the recipient of an Academic Excellence Award during his Junior year. Coby has completed Theatre Arts I-III and as of this year, he has transitioned to working behind the scenes, Technical Theatre. He has a love of History and would like to capture today’s events, which is tomorrow’s history, through documentaries. Coby Flanagan will attend VCU, Fall-2019, in hopes of being one of the 1,100 undergraduate students within The Richard T. Robertson School of Media and Culture. Coby will be working towards a Mass Communications, Bachelor of Science with a concentration in journalism (digital and broadcast).
