    Would you like something fun to do this weekend?   Come see the MHS Theatre and choir present the musical "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" Friday, Tickets are $10 on ticketspicket.com or at the door. Performances are Friday, January 11, and Saturday, January 12, at 7:00 p.m, with a matinee at 2:00 on Saturday, as well.

    Virginia Council on Women announced the 8th Annual STEM Essay Contest to award at least 5 $5000 scholarships to young women in their Junior & Senior years of High School planning to pursue a STEMP career in college.  For more information visit Commonwealth of Virginia STEM Intiatives

    The REACH program and Panther Pals will be plunging into the Atlantic Ocean on February 1st to benefit Special Olympics. We will be collecting money during lunch shifts on Thursdays and Fridays in January. We have chosen 6 staff members to have their faces on a coffee can. The teacher with the most money in their can on January 31st will be dunked in an icy cold bucket. It will be videotaped and put on the announcements for the week. If we raise over $1500 as a school, all 6 staff members will be dunked!!

    Attention juniors, and mature sophomores: The time has come to apply for the prestigious Summer Residential Governor’s School programs in Academics and Mentorships. These highly competitive programs are seeking outstanding 10th and 11th graders who demonstrate excellence in academic achievement and potential. Academic programs include Humanities, Math, Science, Technology, Agriculture, Marine Science and Engineering. Catherine Sullivan, Rebekah Bautista, Manahal Fazal, Hillary Jean-Bart, Jordan Mullikin, and Rebecca Peters were all selected to attend the Summer Academic Governor’s School last year. Interested students should contact Mr. Burner via email or in Room 217 by Monday Jan 14 so we can begin the application process.

    Attention Varsity Volleyball Players: The Spotsylvania County middle schools are looking for line judges for their upcoming volleyball matches. This is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours and improve your knowledge of the game.     A representative from VMI (Virginia Military Institute) will be here on Thursday and Friday during pride time to meet with interested students. If you would like to speak to the representative and find out more about the school please sign up in the counseling office.

    January's Latin Club meeting will be Monday, January 14th in room 124. We will be watching a movie and eating pizza. Make sure you let Ms. Caudill know if you're coming so she can get enough pizza!

    A reminder to Students:  Students please do not bring blankets to school, as they are not allowed to be carried throughout the hallways, nor used in the classrooms.  We appreciate your cooperation.

    The Building Leaders for Advancing Science and Technology (BLAST) program offers an exciting, on-campus summer experience designed to increase student interest and curiosity in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).  BLAST provides a residential opportunity to current 8th and 9th grade students with at least a C+ grade average and a desire to explore STEM opportunities.  For more information and to apply, visit https://blast.spacegrant.org

    The Betty J. Hunter Bazemore (BJHB) Scholarship Fund was founded in November of 2014 in an effort to provide college scholarships to students entering or returning to school. It is also our goal to assist students in various areas of college and scholarship preparation.
    Students in grades 10 through 12 are invited to attend our College and Scholarship Summit on Saturday, January 19, 2019. The session will take place from 10 AM to 1:00 PM at River Club Church. Attendance is free, but all participants must register through Eventbrite to ensure we have enough packets and food.     The Junior Class is accepting nominations for our 2019 Mr. Massaponax Pageant. Juniors and Seniors look out for an email with the nomination form and follow the directions. Nominations will be accepted through Monday January 14th.
