Attendance

  • The State of Virginia requires school attendance for persons 6 to 17 years of age. In order for students to make progress it is very important they have consistent attendance. Students will be counted present when roll is taken or when signed in as tardy.

Students who arrive after 8:50 a.m. must come to the office for a tardy pass.
Extended vacations causing students to miss classes are strongly discouraged. Even though the educational value of such trips is recognized, instruction missed may be impossible to make up. If trips are necessary during school days, parents should consult with the principal before taking students out of school.

When students are absent they are expected to make up class and homework. Failure to make up required assignments will be reflected in the students’ grades.

Students returning to school after an absence are required to bring a note stating the dates and
    reason for absences.

Students are encouraged to attend school all day, every day. Students who achieve perfect attendance at the end of the first semester will receive a Perfect Attendance lapel pin. Students who attend school every day of the school year will receive a Perfect Attendance Certificate. A Perfect Attendance medallion is issued to students with Perfect Attendance and no more than three tardies each semester.

Our auto-dial system is used to alert parents of a student’s absence. If this call is made in error, please let us know.

If you would like to request homework, please call our office before noon to allow time for teacher preparation. Homework may be picked up after 3:20 p.m.
