    Mr. Lane Byrd, Principal    
    After graduating from Virginia Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering, Mr. Byrd began his career in education as a high school math teacher at Spotsylvania High School.  Mr. Byrd taught math for 15 years and coached boys basketball, girls basketball, and girls softball, including positions in Prince William County and at Massaponax High School.  After completion of his administrative degree, Mr. Byrd began working at the middle school level, first as an administrative intern and then as assistant principal at Post Oak Middle School.  Since the 2011-2012 school year, Mr. Byrd has served as the proud principal of Spotsylvania Middle School and feels blessed each day to work with wonderful students, supportive parents, and a caring & professional staff.  The SMS school community is the best!  GO BULLDOGS!!!     
    Mr. Scott Wilson, Assistant Principal
    Mr. Wilson was raised in Horseheads, New York, a small town just outside the city of Elmira.  He graduated from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and was a member of the baseball team.  In 1998, he began teaching Science at Chancellor Middle School then transferred to Freedom Middle when the school opened in 2003.  During this time, Mr. Wilson was found coaching athletics at both the High School and Middle School levels. While completing his Master degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University, Mr. Wilson served as an Administrative Intern at Freedom Middle School and as an interim Assistant Principal at Riverbend High School.  He began as the Assistant Principal of Spotsylvania Middle in the summer of 2011 and feels very lucky to support such a great community.  GO BULLDOGS!!!
    Mrs. Margaret Newman, Instructional Coordinator
    Mrs. Newman is a Stafford County, Virginia native.  After graduating from North Stafford High School she went on to attend Longwood University.  She taught at John J. Wright Middle School and Parkside Elementary before she began her position as a Math Specialist, while earning her Masters from the University of Virginia. After working as a Math Specialist for ten years at various middle and elementary schools in Spotsylvania, she now gets to call Spotsylvania Middle School home and looks forward to each day that she gets to spend with her Bulldog family!
    Mrs. Alicia Gallaway, Administrative Intern
    Mrs. Gallaway is a native of Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Bowdoin College with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and was an active member and captain of her college Step team.  She then taught third grade for two years before going to Cambridge College where she graduated with her Masters in Education.  Mrs.  Gallaway continued teaching elementary school for five years before becoming a Reading Specialist. In 2017, Mrs. Gallaway came to Spotsylvania Middle School as a Reading Specialist until she graduated from Old Dominion University with her Ed. S in School Administration and Supervision in 2020.  Now she serves as the Administrative Intern at Spotsylvania Middle School.  She feels blessed and honored to work with the staff, students and families in the SMS community.
