Ms. Tara Schohn

Principal

It is my privilege to serve as the principal of Salem Elementary! This is my 3rd year being a part of the Salem family. I’m excited to continue in a leadership role. I am a long time educator, beginning my teaching career back in 1994 as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher. I also taught every grade through 8th grade over the years.  I was then appointed to an Instructional Specialist at the elementary level, where I worked with teachers on curriculum, instruction, and provided leadership with staff development, interventions, and program needs. In 2017, I moved to Virginia and was given the opportunity to be the assistant principal here at Salem. I knew, almost immediately, that I belonged amongst the Salem Stars!

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Nova Southeastern University and a Master of Education degree in Administration, Supervision, Curriculum & Instruction from Duquesne University. I am a proponent of the Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports Program (PBIS). I believe in establishing high expectations for academics and building strong, positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and community members in order to create an environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed. If I can be of any help throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Assistant Principal

I am beyond excited to join the Salem Stars Family this year.  I have been an educator for the past 17 years teaching grades K-5.  Ten years have been spent at Riverview Elementary, right here in Spotsylvania County, where I was a Title I Reading and Math teacher and 1st and 2nd grade teacher.  This past year I had the privilege to serve as Interim Assistant Principal at Battlefield Elementary.

I was born in Quebec, Canada and grew up in upstate New York.  I received my Bachelor's degree from Radford University and a Masters degree in Education Leadership from George Mason University.  I am passionate about building a positive school environment by fostering relationships with the staff, students and community, while holding high expectations for academic excellence of our superstar school here at Salem.
