Ms. Tara Schohn

Proud Principal

I am blessed to be able to continue to serve as the principal of Salem Elementary! This is my 4th year being a part of the Salem family. I’m excited to continue my leadership role. I am a long time educator, beginning my teaching career back in 1994 as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher. I also taught every grade through 8th grade over the years.  I was then appointed to an Instructional Specialist at the elementary level, where I worked with teachers on curriculum, instruction, and provided leadership with staff development, interventions, and program needs. In 2017, I moved to Virginia and was given the opportunity to be the assistant principal here at Salem. I knew, almost immediately, that I belonged amongst the Salem Stars!

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Nova Southeastern University and a Master of Education degree in Administration, Supervision, Curriculum & Instruction from Duquesne University. I am a proponent of the Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports Program (PBIS). I believe in establishing high expectations for academics and building strong, positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and community members in order to create an environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed. If I can be of any help throughout the year, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Mrs. Kimberly Baker

Assistant Principal

I am beyond excited to continue as part of the Salem Stars Family this 2020-2021 school year.  I have been an educator for the past 18 years teaching grades K-5 and supporting teachers as a reading and math coach. While this new year holds many uncertainties, I have no doubt that our Salem Star teachers and students will achieve great success in all platforms.

I was born in Quebec, Canada and grew up in upstate New York.  I received my Bachelor's degree from Radford University and a Masters degree in Education Leadership from George Mason University.  I am passionate about building a positive school environment by fostering relationships with the staff, students and community, while holding high expectations for academic excellence of our superstar school here at Salem.
