It is with great excitement that I welcome you to a new school year at Brock Road Elementary.  At Brock, we are committed to the achievement and success of every student.  To our new and returning Bobcats, WELCOME to the 2018-2019 school year!

For those who have not had the opportunity to meet me, my name is Shonda Collins-Richey and I am honored to be the principal of Brock Road Elementary.  My passion is rooted in respect for the uniqueness of every child, honoring the needs of each student as an individual while maintaining high expectations for all students.  This conviction has developed over my 22 years in education during which time I served as a middle and high school English teacher, an administrative intern for two years and an assistant principal for five years prior to being named principal of Brock Road five years ago.

The Brock Road staff is committed to EXCELLENCE and the belief that every child can excel to meet their full potential.  We also recognize that no academic success occurs without a partnership between school staff, students, and parents.

Our BRES staff truly believes that our students are our most-valued clients.  Our hope is to make every Bobcat’s educational experience fun, positive, relevant, and life changing.

Looking forward to working with you this year,

    Shonda Collins-Richey

My love of working with children began at a young age by way of babysitting for neighbors and family friends.  After high school I attended the University of Georgia and graduated with a Bachelor degree in both Childhood Development and Early Childhood Education. My teaching career started in Paulding County, Georgia where I taught Kindergarten and 1st grade and was selected as New Teacher of the Year. After moving to Virginia in 1994, I taught in Culpeper County Public Schools in both 1st and 3rd grades. After several years, I moved into Spotsylvania County and worked at Riverview Elementary where I taught both 3rd and 4th grades. It was during my time in Culpeper and Riverview that I completed my Master’s of Education in Administration and Supervision from VCU.

I have been blessed to be at Brock Road Elementary since 2005 as the Assistant Principal. Developing relationships with families and fostering their children to grow and develop into positive, lifelong learners is my passion.
