Stuff the Bus

  • Since 2013, Spotsylvania County Public Schools has partnered with a local Wal-mart store location to hold a Stuff the Bus event.

We expanded the event to include a lead sponsor who helped promote the event on their social media sites as well as collect supplies at their location.  Parrish Learning Zone was the lead sponsor.  Additionally, we partnered with B101.5 radio station to provide radio spots to promote the event as well as provide an onsite remote.  The partner station News Talk1230 WFVA featured us as guest on Ted Schubel's Town Talk.  During the hour long radio show, Rene Daniels, Director of Communications and Community Engagement; Nina Parrish, owner of Parrish Learning Zone; and Michelle Swisher, school social worker were able to talk about classroom needs and the positive impact of providing school supplies on the first day of school.

The school supplies collected at the event are distributed to students across the county and help stock the Division's Treasure House. The Treasure House is open weekly during the school year for students and their families to shop at no cost for school supplies as well as personal hygiene items, clothing, and non-perishable food items.
