“Whether we’re a preschooler or a young teen, a graduating college senior or a retired person, we human beings all want to know that we’re acceptable, that our being alive somehow makes a difference in the lives of others.”
−Mr. Fred Rogers
Welcome to the 2018-19 school year! While this year’s early opening presented some challenges, we believe that the current instructional calendar opens up even more opportunity for our students as well as the community of stakeholders who strive to fulfill the mission and vision of Spotsylvania County Public Schools. Though SCPS is one of the largest school divisions in the Commonwealth, we are dedicated in our pursuit of a culture and capacity to fully meet the diverse learning needs of each child who enters our schoolhouse doors.
One critical way in which we work to effectively address the range of student needs is through communication and engagement with students, staff, families and community partners. Sometimes the two concepts are viewed and expressed as one in the same. However, our school system is committed to moving beyond informational communication and engaging all stakeholders in the process of addressing challenges, overcoming barriers, and continuously improving the quality of services we exist to provide. Ultimately, we want our students and families to feel accepted, included, valued and loved.
We begin the opening of this school year with a great deal of momentum, as evidenced by the many highlights that are featured on our website, through social media and in our IMPACT newsletter. I trust that you will find the content and features both informative and inspiring. Moving forward into this school year, we will be reaching out to communicate and engage with you around the evaluation of our current division strategic plan and the development of the SCPS Strategic Plan 2025!
As our mission states, “Together we prepare our students for their future.” TOGETHER we make “a difference in the lives of others.” You and your family are highly valued and appreciated.
Wishing you a great start and a safe and successful school year!
