Welcome to Spotsylvania County Public Schools!  The 2017-18 school year is underway and with it genuine hope and big dreams for each of our school division’s almost 24,000 students. Another tremendous start to the academic year can be attributed to the inherent quality and teamwork of our students, staff, school board, parents, and community partners.  Our students are best-served and most successful when school community stakeholders are engaged and working together to meet their needs.

In my role as superintendent, I routinely emphasize that “we”, as a large public school division, exist because the children of this community and throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia need and deserve exceptional educational services. Consequently, our school division strives to fully support the needs of the “whole child” (e.g. intellectual, psychological, physical, and emotional).  If you are new to the Spotsylvania community, I believe you will quickly detect and experience our commitment toward making a significant, positive difference in the learning and life of your child.

While there are many ways we address diverse student learning needs, including strong, relevant learning experiences through high quality programs, we strive to further distinguish our brand of service through developing caring and dynamic relationships between those who serve and are being served.  As our mission states, “Together, we prepare our students for their future.”

Now in year five of our Strategic Plan implementation, SCPS continues to focus on and pursue three primary system goals:

    Goal 1.0 Teaching & Learning

Prepare all students to be college and career ready.

Goal 2.0 Community Engagement & Partnerships

Family, students, staff and the entire community actively engage to seek resources and to develop opportunities that meet future educational challenges and workforce needs.

Goal 3.0   Organizational Climate & School Safety

The learning and working environment is safe, caring, healthy, and values diversity.

We are glad that you a part of our school community!  I invite and encourage you, as a critical partner in fostering student success, to explore our website, where you will find a wealth of pertinent information. This information includes student and staff highlights, school and division performance data, contact information, division strategic plan, instructional calendar, employment opportunities, budget data, important events and links to all schools and sites.  I trust you will find our website to be a valuable source of information.

    Have a wonderful school year!
