Degrees and Certifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University
My name is Dawn D’Addio. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University. I came to SCTC with over 24 years worth of nursing experience. I have been a teacher at SCTC for three years teaching Introductory to Health and Medical Sciences. Some of my prior experience with nursing and health care has varied greatly. I was a commissioned officer in the Unites States Army as part of the Army Nurse Corps for several years shortly after graduation from college. I have worked in several different hospital settings to include medical surgical units, a psychiatric unit, pediatric units, a pediatric intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care units, labor and delivery, a hematology/oncology unit, a hematology/oncology clinic, and home health care. I have also been a school nurse at two different elementary schools and a high school. Prior to teaching at the high school level, I taught both LPN and RN programs.
I truly enjoy working with high school students and helping them pave their way to a career in health care. I am passionate about exposing the student to the many pieces of health care. I do not just assist them during the year I teach them but I am here to assist them in their choices for classes and college prep in the future. I believe in the career and technical education and live by the pretense that we help our students build their tomorrow.
In my spare time I volunteer as a nurse for Brainy Camps through Children’s Nations Medical Center- camps for kids that are medically fragile. I love giving back to my community through opportunities like this. This opportunity continues to fill my need to help others. I hold active licenses in Virginia and West Virginia and I am CPR certified.
I have three children: two boys in college and a girl who is a senior at Courtland High School. I like to spend my time with my children, travel and run.
