Message from the MHS Clinic:
Here at Massaponax Clinic, the overall health and wellness of our students is our top priority. We are committed to ensuring that your child remains healthy and in school! Here are some things to help you as parents support both your student(s) and the clinic.
For the safety of all our students, students are prohibited from carrying any medication on their person. This includes over-the-counter medication. Students caught with medication on their person, in their locker, or in their book bag will be in violation of the Code of Conduct and subject to disciplinary action.
Students with an Asthma Action and/or Anaphylaxis Action Plan may carry inhalers and epi-pens, only, if authorized and signed by their physician. This ensures the child has been properly trained to self-administer these medications. These items may not be carried by the student until a copy of the plan is on file in the clinic. Your child will need a new plan every year.
Students may have both over-the-counter and prescription medication in the clinic, provided there is an order signed by both the parent and the physician. Please ensure that the physician uses the generic name for the medication (if the generic form is medically acceptable), and puts a specific dosage, route (i.e. oral, injection, etc.) and frequency (i.e. every 6 hours). Unfortunately, if the paperwork is not correct, we cannot accept the medication. Students will need a new form every year.
Medication must be in a new unopened package or a prescription bottle that reflects it was prescribed for the student. All medication must be brought in by a parent, guardian or person over the age of 18 (not enrolled in high school).
All medication will need to be picked up, by a parent or guardian by 12 pm on the last day of school. Medication that is not picked up will be properly disposed of in accordance with county policy.
The preceding policies are SCPS Board policies and state law.
If your student is diagnosed with the flu or other communicable illness, please notify the clinic as soon as possible so that we can take precautions, if necessary, to prevent further transmission.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us! We are looking forward to supporting your student this year!
