Chantel Hardy, Jontell Parham, and Madison Schwarzmann, members of the RHS FCCLA competed at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State Leadership Conference, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. They submitted two display projects, one emphasizing our FCCLA activities throughout the year and the other emphasizing a community service project for the Mary’s Shelter in Fredericksburg. The girls placed gold, 1st in the state for Chapter Service Project Display and silver, 1st place in the state for Chapter Showcase Project Display, earning them the chance to compete at the national FCCLA competition in Nashville, Tn., July 6th – 11th.

RHS had the 2nd highest participation in last falls Baron P Braswell, II Run Against Teen Violence. A Special Thank You to the members of the Field Hockey team, Cross Country team, SCA, and everyone else who participated.
Congratulations to Madison Boyer for qualifying for Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) National Finals in Novice Equitation by winning top prize at the Zone Finals. She earned this opportunity by winning her division at the regional finals in Virginia Beach in February. Nationals are held in Syracuse, NY where she will be one top 24 high school students in the nation chosen to compete in Novice Equitation.

Jack Gleason is the recipient of the President’s Gold Level Volunteer Service award from ShelterBox, an international disaster relief organization. He received this honor at their annual conference in San Francisco in February. In March, he will be traveling to Hawaii where he and his family will also be recognized for their community service efforts.

Congratulations to Morgan Locks for becoming a finalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Competition. National Merit Scholars are chosen based on their performance on the PSAT/NMSQT in the junior year as well as their overall academic performance. Morgan has advanced from the semi-finalist stage to the finalist stage. Winners will be chosen in March. Best of luck and congratulations Morgan on this well deserved recognition.

The Riverbend High School Junior Classical League was recognized by the Executive Board of the National Junior Classical League for their outstanding leadership and promotion of values of excellence, as well as their membership size of over 100 members. Special recognition was given to league sponsor, Mr. Mark Keith for his devotion to this program and the students involved. Congratulations to all participants of the Riverbend High School Junior Classical League.

Members of the marching band helped to raise a 30'x42' replica of the 15-star, 15-stripe flag Francis Scott Key saw when he penned the words to the Star Spangled Banner on Sunday as part of a Veterans Day Celebration at Fort McHenry in Baltimore.

"Kayla Brumbaum commits to attend N.C. State to swim for the next four years. Kayla is the 2011 Virginia State Champion in the 100 Meter Women's Breast Stroke and a 2012 Olympic Trials Qualifier. Congratulations Kayla!!! RHS is proud of you!!"

Congratulations to Michael Bloomfield and Kerry Wheeler for being nominated as the state representatives from Riverbend High School for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award for distinguished achievement in community service. Thank you both for your great effort in community service in and throughout the Riverbend community. And, congratulations to Jonathan Cerritelli for being named as a "finalist" for the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and receiving an Award of Merit for demonstrating outstanding commitment to community service.

Congratulations go out to Marie Kreck as she will represent Riverbend at the Virginia Senior Honors Choir in November. Over seven hundred seniors from across the state auditioned this past weekend at Longwood University. She is one of 130 students selected for this prestigious choir. Go Marie!

The Annual James Farmer Scholar Induction Breakfast was hosted this year at Battlefield Middle School. There were thirteen 7th grade students who were inducted last Saturday. We would like to send a special Thank you out to Amber Kerrigan (Sr), Imani Dunn (Jr), and Sierra Jackson (Fr) for their contributions to the program and representing JFS here at RHS pictured with Superintendent Baker.
CONGRATULATIONS to Andrew Hence for being inducted into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame for his outstanding play on the baseball diamond and his outstanding performance as an educator and coach!! Mr. Hence was a 4-year member of the Bridgewater College baseball program and is still recognized as one of the top pitcher's in the College's history. He was named the Eagle's Outstanding Pitcher in both 1974 and 1975 and was named to the All-VCAA first-team - ranked among the nation's leaders in earned run average in 1974. Mr. Hence still owns the BC career record for shutouts with six. Mr. Hence is currently a Health & PE teacher here at RHS!!

Congratulations to Ellice Sisson for being the sCTC Optimist Student of the Month for September. She currently serves as the Cadet Commander for the CHCORI JROTC Battalion. Great job Ellice.

Congratulations to Morgan Locks, Semi Finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Morgan is 1 of 16,000 students from across the Nation of over 1.5 million who took the PSAT/NMSQT in the Fall of 2012 as a junior reaching this level of commendation. Of these 1.5 million students taking the PSAT/NMSQT, Morgan's score placed him in the top 1% in the Nation. Congratulations Morgan!

FFA Vet Science State Winning team members Taylor Smith, Kristy D'Alessandro, Sue Venable - Shelton (Coach), Kendra Monteith, and Veronica Thornton. These young ladies have earned a spot at the National FFA Convention in Indiana this October.

Paryce Bradlly, RHS 2012 graduate, who was elected as the 2012-2013 Virginia State FFA Reporter. This is a phenomenal accomplishment and opportunity for Paryce - we are so proud of her!
