ACCREDITATION

To provide assurance for parents and other stakeholders that the school division is focused on quality and continual improvement, Spotsylvania County Schools engages in three forms of accreditation of its schools.

All Virginia public schools receive an accreditation rating annually from the Virginia Board of Education. This rating is based on the performance of students on Standards of Learning tests and other statewide assessments.

Secondly, schools are also rated according to the progress they make each year toward the goals of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), also known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB).  Schools that meet or exceed annual objectives of that program are rated as having made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).

In addition to the two forms of accreditation which are required of all public schools, Spotsylvania County Schools voluntarily participates in a third process to provide a clear picture of the entire district. That form of accreditation, known as “District Accreditation”, applies the three pillars of accreditation – high standards, continuous improvement, and quality assurance – to the entire school district to ensure alignment and support between and among all the departments and operating units of the district and its schools. It provides a comprehensive framework for continually improving student learning and district effectiveness.  “District Accreditation” is achieved through AdvancED, the parent company for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). AdvancED currently reviews and accredits approximately 27,000 public and private schools across the United States, in sixty-five countries and in the Department of Defense (DOD) schools.

Taken together, these three separate “ratings” of our school division provide a clear picture of Spotsylvania County Schools. To see specific and detailed information about any or all of these accreditation programs, simply “click” below on an appropriate box.
